Executive Presbyter, Church of the Way Members Head to Ghana
Eleven missionaries from Presbyterian Church of the Way (Shoreview) head to the southern coast of Ghana in the western Horn of Africa! We fly into Accra, the capitol, and then on into the interior via van with our own driver to be with our Sister Church, the Pres-byterian Church of Dampong. We’ll spend powerful and inspiring days in their town and the surrounding villages.
We’ll get to worship, pray and celebrate with them and other churches in the area. We’ll see the wells we helped build, use the new, beauti-ful latrine we paid for, and visit their elementary and secondary schools. The most important part: building friendships that can support and encourage one another across the miles and the times between visits. We also have goals of a better understanding of the history and culture of Ghana in which our partners serve, and soak up some of the beauty of the country as we travel from Acrra to Dampong, and back.
Our itinerary has been revised slightly since our airline flight on August 1 with United was cancelled! Our travel agent, Carrie Caldwell of Book It! Travel, was able to get us ALL on a Delta flight the next day. Whew! We’ll still be commissioned on Sunday, July 31, but fly out on Tuesday, August 2 and return Saturday, August 13.
*Here are the members of the Journey Team. All have felt God’s call to serve on this initial voyage to join our churches together in person, and we are grateful and amazed at the diversity of interests and gifts they will bring to our journey and our sharing of it upon our return. Luke Koopmeiners, a beloved son of this congrega-tion, has now enthusiastically joined us. The Rev. Chaz Ruark, the Presbytery Executive of our Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area as well as the Rev. Janet Ruark, interim pastor at Baldwin, WI, are two more wonderful additions to the team.
Continue to pray for us as we prepare our hearts and the details of our mission to faithfully serve the Lord and Savior of us all!
