Synod of Lakes and Prairies Communicators Conference

Doing it All - From Storytelling to Disaster

Thursday noon to Friday noon,

September 15-16, 2011

Holiday Inn, 1950 Rahncliff Court, Eagan, Minnesota

The communicator’s role, whether it’s in a congregation or a presbytery or other extension of the church, has multiple dimensions. There’s more to communication than telling stories. Others expect the communicator to know technology, build relationships, respond to disaster and work with other church organizations. It’s not always simple.

This year’s conference, a noon-to-noon event, will look at a variety of communication roles. We’ll hear about storytelling, disaster response, social networking, responding to the media and even more.

Conference leaders include Eva Stimson, editor of Presbyterians Today magazine, and Jerry Van Marter, coordinator of Presbyterian News Service. Dennis Sanders, communications specialist for the Presbytery of Twin Cities Area – and a minister and avid blogger, will lead a session on social networking. Kaylene Hoskins, an administrative assistant and bookkeeper in the Presbytery of North Central Iowa who has become the presbytery’s disaster assistance coordinator, will lead a session on

disaster response and preparedness.

Only $50. The cost of the conference, including workshops, one-night’s lodging, meals and snacks is $50 for the first 25 registrants. The synod will make Thursday night, Sept. 15, hotel reservations for all registrants who need accommodations. Registration is simple. Those who want to attend need to send an email to Duane

Sweep, the synod’s associate for communications, at dsweep@lakesandprairies.org.

The email needs to state an intent to attend, any special lodging requirements (all rooms will be single occupancy) or meal requirements, and an emergency contact. A $50 check must then be sent to Sweep at Synod of Lakes and Prairies, 2115 Cliff Drive,

Eagan, MN 55122. All registrants will receive confirmation emails and receipts.
