Provoking The Gospel

First Presbyterian Church- Rochester invites fellow Presbyterians  to participate in A day of Storytelling Workshops  and a Story Concert with Dr. Richard Swanson, author of the “Provoking the Gospel, a Storyteller’s Commentary” series on  Saturday, April 14, 2012.

Dr. Richard Swanson, professor of Religion/Philosophy/Classics at Augustana Collegein Sioux Falls, South Dakota, directs the Provoking the Gospel Storytelling Project, a troupe of actors that explores biblical narratives and creates performances of them. In addition, Richard is an active member of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, currently serving on their Board of Directors and as part of the NBS Seminar Scholars group.

1:00 – 2:30PM Workshop: “A Time to Provoke”   Dr. Richard Swanson

7:00PM Story Concert in the Sanctuary

This workshop will provide an opportunity to provoke a biblical story as “hands-on” participant. Using the stories we have known, taught or preached for years, Dr. Swanson will help participants approach the text from new and unexpected angles. This workshop would be of interest to teachers, preachers, actors and seasoned storytellers.

At 7PM, there will be a Storytelling Concert featuring TJ Parlette, the Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian and Mark Mueller.  “In the Beginning” will tell the biblical stories of creation and the Garden of Eden, with Dr. Swanson providing commentary.
