Committee on Ministry
The Committee on Ministry is charged by the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to “serve as pastor and counselor to the ministers and Certified Christian Educators of the presbytery, to facilitate the relations between congregations, teaching elders, and Certified Christian Educators, and the presbytery, and to settle difficulties on behalf of presbytery when possible and expedient.” (G-3.0307)

COM also serves the presbytery according to G-3.0307 and G-3.0106. In the interval between stated meetings of the presbytery, it performs the following functions, with the provision that all such actions be reported to the next stated meeting of the presbytery:
  • Appoint administrative commissions to install teaching elders who have received a properly approved call.
  • Adjust difficulties in particular churches.
  • Appoint a moderator of a session, where the pulpit is vacant due to the resignation, departure, or disability of the teaching elder.
  • Receive teaching elders in good standing in another presbytery, who are without pastoral charge.
  • Approve the call of a congregation to a teaching elder to be its pastor or associate pastor, provided the call conforms to the presbytery's minimum terms of compensation.
  • Place a properly approved ministerial call in the hands of a teaching elder member of the presbytery.
  • Dismiss a teaching elder to another presbytery upon the request of the teaching elder.
  • Transmit a properly approved call to a teaching elder member of another presbytery to that presbytery through the stated clerk.
  • Receive a teaching elder in good standing who has received a ministerial call, properly approved by the presbytery of the Committee on Ministry, to labor within the bounds of the presbytery prior to dismissal by the minister's presbytery of membership
